A very wise man by the name of Mahatma Gandhi
once said, “Be the change that you wish to see in the world.” This is my motto I try to live by each and everyday. If you’re anything like me, I like to get a dose of early meditation and yoga in the morning followed by a nutritious lunch. I revere my health as paramount! Health is truly wealth! When you ask a senior citizen what’s the one wish they had, it’s a resounding health, not more money or more friends or more pizza.
Our pets are blessed to walk this world with us and share the most intimate parts of our life. I virtually take my dog, Api everywhere with me including airplanes, yoga classes, car rides, restaurants, beaches, even the shower! Unfortunately our dogs and cats are only here with us a short 10-20 years. Sad, I know…. But why not make all those days count with optimum health? Prolong their lives so they can enjoy an extra hike, hug, or kiss from us. When I say prolong, I mean the type of quality of life that we all want for ourselves, not dragging out the days in pain or agony.
Do you agree that quality of life includes exercise for the body and mind, nutritious food, and preventative care? If I’m having an off day and something feels awry, I do NOT reach for pills first. Rather, I will try breathing exercises, acupuncture, massage, reiki, chiropractic, yoga, laser &/or light therapy, food &/or herbal therapy (to name a few). Obviously if I’ve tried these options first and I’m still not better, I will seek my medical professional friends. If I treat my body this way, why not give our pets the same type of compassionate care?
As we enter this world of technology and convenience, there are so many resources at our disposal. There are increased modalities to help our pets that root in Eastern ancient times that are proven to be successful. I want to offer this type of integrative care for our pets and want to see this shift in health care as a whole for our beloved animals.
